Dementia Caregivers Discover Shoes That Save Lives
I think we have finally found a sneaker that is actually worth more than $100!! Inventor Isaac Daniels has patented "Quantum Satellite Technology with GPS tracking" in sneakers that will have hidden tracking devices and alarms in the sneaker fabric. The sneakers, called Compass Global 1000, will launch in early 2007 with only one thousand pairs available. In a crisis, a sneaker user could activate the alarm and be located within the "accuracy of one yard". In the case of someone lost who was unable to press the alarm, other tracking methods can be employed. To appeal to the masses, the sneaker will be manufactured by Fele in 19 different styles and colors. Those who worry about the safety of their loved ones with dementia, a product like this could literally be a lifesaver. The cost is expected to be $325.00 per pair with an additional $19.99/month for tracking services. In some of the recent articles, the feeling was that runners couldn't believe that anyone would pay for such an expensive product when a decent sneaker may only last about 500 miles of walking. You are probably thinking what I'm thinking: For those of us working with the lives of persons with dementia, doesn't $325 seem reasonable?
