Dementia Behaviors May Be Helped By Acupressure
A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing in the UK says that using a technique called acupressure can significantly reduce agitated behavior in persons with dementia.
Acupressure is a technique which applies gentle pressure to key body areas. In this research, the study used 5 areas on the body to press gently after a warm up session that involved holding and rubbing the palms of the hand, fingers and joints on both hands.
The study revealed that providing twice daily acupressure techniques for at least 5 days per week made a significant reduction in agitated behavior and wandering.
Have any of you tried acupressure? If so, let us know how it worked.
