Last month, President Obama signed into law the very first National Action Plan for Alzheimer's disease. This National Plan is poised to help coordinate an effort to "accelerate the development of treatmnets that would prevent, halt or reverse the course of Alzheimer's disease" while also to "improve the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and coordination of the care and treatment of citizens with the disease".
In case you are not familiar, this new National Action Plan, is part of the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA) that was first passed by both houses of Congress in 2010. The plan is not about allocating money but rather to coordinate and strength the efforts to get more bang for the buck. The reasoning behind this is the sobering statistic that for every government dollar that is spent on caring for people with Alzheimer's disease, only one PENNY is spent on research to prevent the disease.
